[edit] Usage
Note: This template can be used on any redirect except soft redirects and cross-namespace redirects.
This template is based on a proposal to standardize redirect templates. Its basic purpose is to simplify the process of tagging redirects, and eliminate the redundancy of viewing a list that repeatedly says "This is a redirect."
Used by itself with no parameters (i.e. {{This is a redirect}} or shortcut thereof), the template will appear as above and automatically put the page into Uncategorized redirects. To specify and link to the the target page, use the parameter t. As with many templates that categorize, the paramater "category" can be used to cause no categories to be transcluded if it is defined as empty (that is, just "category="). However, this will only work when the transcluded templates have had the proper functionality added.
{{This is a redirect|from airport code}}
uses a version of {{R from airport code}} and produces
| This page is a redirect from Template:This is a redirect. It exists for the following reason:
|
The optional parameter a allows the user to give a custom reason for the redirect. If a template beginning with "R_" isn't found, the transcluded template is whatever has the same title as the exact text given, so {{This is a redirect|R from airport code}} should produce the same result as the above.
Parameters e1 through e4 are optional explanations, to clarify why the redirect category applies in each particular case.
Example with nearly the most possible parameters used: {{This is a redirect|category=|t=Wikipedia|from airport code|e1=This airport code is rarely used any more.|alter lang|e2=The language is English|from album|e3=OK, this isn't really an album|from Unicode|a=Another reason.}} produces
| This page is a redirect from Template:This is a redirect (the redirecting page) to Template:Wikipedia (the target page). It exists for the following reasons:
This is a redirect from an English name to a name in another language, or vice-versa. It leads to the title in accordance with the naming conventions for titles in other languages and can help writing. However, do not replace these redirected links with a piped link unless the page is updated for another reason. For more information, follow the category link.
This is a redirect from a Unicode character to a relevant article. It is considered unprintworthy (see {{R unprintworthy}} and Meta:Paper Wikipedia), and is sorted into Category:Redirects from Unicode characters.

(with less categorization). As the above example currently demonstrates with "alter lang" and "from Unicode", not all the transcluded templates will appear in bullet form — only those to which a specific ifeq sequence has been added. Also, template shortcuts are acceptable inclusions — so for speed, a capitalization-based redirect can be tagged with {{Redr|cap}}, which produces
| This page is a redirect from Template:This is a redirect. It exists for the following reason: This is a redirect from a title with another method of capitalisation. It leads to the title in accordance with the Wikipedia naming conventions for capitalisation, and can help writing, searching, and international language issues. Pages linking to any of these redirects may be updated to link directly to the target page. However, do not replace these redirected links with a piped link unless the page is updated for another reason. For more information, see Category:Redirects from other capitalisations. |
