Why is direct free kick and indirect free kick separate articles? Much much better as a single article. 165.21.154.117 22:13, 22 September 2005 (UTC)

Hi there. I created a series of articles (or in some cases overhauled existing articles) for each of the football restarts, with each article following a similar format. IFK and DFK are distinct restarts, each with their own criteria for award, consequences and impacts on strategic play. Having separate articles allows these to be covered, especially as people begin to add more information regarding strategy, etc. Daveb 00:25, 23 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Question

Under what circumstances is this even likely to happen on a "direct free kick"? However, should the ball directly land in the own goal, a corner kick is awarded to the opposing team. A player may be penalised for an offside offence direct from a direct free kick. I've watched many soccer games over the years and can't envision a situation in which a player would kick a direct "free kick" directly into his own goal. If it's headed or kicked into the own goal by the opposing player off a freekick, with no touch by the kicking team, it's not "directly." Enlighten me. Or if this is not some "rules for rules' sake" point, please clean up the use of the words "direct" and "directly" (be definition, maybe?)--Buckboard 16:00, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] the photograph is not very representative

as there is a mere two-men wall. It seems to me one with a more populated defense wall would trigger the association in the viewer's mind with what s/he has witnessed (like say, on TV).

[edit] Maybe mention some footballers

No footballers are mentioned in this article. Maybe there should be a section named Notably Talented Free Kick Takers or more simply Free Kick Experts. Thesean43

[edit] Consensus on freekick takers in "Scoring Opportunities" section

Would it be possible to gain consensus on which footballers should be mentioned in the "Scoring Opportunities" section here: [1], perhaps with input from Wikipedia:WikiProject_Football and the community at large? More than half (60) of the last 100 edits are essentially additions and removals of various names as editors jostle for position, so to speak. It'd be nice to end this silliness. :) --SesameballTalk 10:29, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
