[edit] Combine with Amateurism
Consider combining this article with the one on Amateurism. soverman 19:17 04 March 2006 (UTC)
- I put the tag on both of the articles. Introgressive 20:42, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
- I support the merging of the articles, if for no other reason because the first sentence of Amateurism defines and Amateur. As a president see Surgeon->Surgery, Dentist->Dentistry. Lbradley 17:24, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
- Do not merge the two articles. The word, "amateur" is very widely used in US English, but "amateurism" is not. The sense of the word, "amateur" is worthy of its own article, especially as related to pejorative connotation and qualification for participation in athletics. 141.154.100.194 20:42, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose. Articles should be left apart. Cvene64 13:10, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
- Support. Wikipedia is not a dictionary, the useful information in this definition page should be merged (and a redirect created.) 66.92.39.177 05:11, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose. Although the term "amateur" is partially defined within "amateurism," the former is a specific, descriptive term which is perhaps better left as the link pointing to the latter which more literally expresses a state of being or living the noun from which it is derived.
- Support. Type in amateur, you'll get a quick redirect and never know it happened. en.wikipedia is not U.S. biased; not that I much go for that reasoning anyway. Teke 05:37, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- Amateurism is about amateur sports, not amateurs or amateurism in general. I am removing the merge tags. I would consider moving Amateurism to Amateur sports. -- Petri Krohn 05:01, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

- Fine,
move amateur sports to its own article andsince Amateurism has been moved to Amateur sports then move this to Amateurism. I thoroughly support most legitimate invocations of WP:WINAD, although it's a very hard concept to sell less-experienced editors on. - PhilipR 16:24, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
- Fine,
I think this article should be expanded analyzing amateurism in arts.190.190.176.237 (talk) 21:46, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
