Sevilla Atlético Club (formerly called Sevilla FC B) is a Spanish football team based in Seville, Andalusia. They will play 2008-09 in the Segunda División, and are the reserve team of Sevilla FC.
Unlike in England, reserve teams in the Spain play in the same football pyramid as their senior team rather than a separate league. However, reserve teams cannot play in the same division as their senior team. Therefore, the team is ineligible for promotion to La Liga, the division in which the A-team currently plays. Reserve teams are also no longer permitted to enter the Spanish Cup.
[edit] History
Founded in 1958, Sevilla Atlético quickly became a Tercera División contender, winning that league in 1960-61 and 1961-62, also spending one year, 1962-63, in the Segunda División. For three years in the early 1970s, the club was relegated to regional play below the third division, but returned to the Tercera in 1976.
Since then, the club has split time between the Tercera, which it won five times in the 1980s, and the Segunda B. In 2007-08, the club returned to the second level, now known as Liga Adelante. In 2008-09, the club is relegated to Segunda B.
