Romance-speaking African countries are those whose official or main languages are that of the Romance ones, namely French, Portuguese, or Spanish, or countries which have significant populations that speak a Romance language.
Many of these countries are members of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) or International Organization of La Francophonie, the Community of Portuguese Language Countries, or the Latin Union.
Countries in North Africa, from Morocco to Egypt, were part of the Roman Empire. As a result, a local African Romance language evolved in Algeria and Morocco. It was spoken until the 17th century.
