Paulo César Carpegiani (born February 7, 1949 in Erechim, Rio Grande do Sul) is a former Brazilian footballer.

[edit] Playing Career

Carpegiani began his professional career at Sport Club Internacional of Porto Alegre, in the Rio Grande do Sul, where he played from 1970 to 1977, winning two Brazilian Championships (1975 and 1976). Carpegiani also played for Flamengo (1977-1980), winning the Brazilian Championship in 1980.

[edit] Coaching Career

Upon retiring, he started an irregular career as football coach. In the beginning Carpegiani coached Flamengo and won the Copa Libertadores de América (Libertadores Cup) and the Intercontinental Cup, beating Liverpool, in 1981, and another Brazilian Championship in 1982. Also, coach the Barcelona Sporting Club (Guayaquil - Ecuador) a few months in 1992. In 2007, he was hired as Corinthians manager, position he is currently in, in the club he was lose 1st appearance in the club, against Clube Náutico Capibaribe,and the club was eliminated out of the Copa do Brasil in the quarter finals. He began his first Campeonato Brasileiro against Esporte Clube Juventude and gained a victory.

His greatest achievement as a coach was with the Paraguayan national team from 1996 to 1998 (including good participation in the World Cup). On 10 April 2009 Carpegiani is Vitória's brand new coach, he previously managed Corinthians in 2007, on 09 July 2009 was replaced from Paulo Comelli.
