Osman is the Turkish, Persian, and Egyptian version of the male Arabic given name Uthman (Arabic: عثمان). It was first used as a Persian version of the Arabic given name, because there is no -th sound in Persian. This pronunciation was also adopted by other languages influenced by Persian, most of all Turkish and Hindustani.
