Olaf Scholz (German pronunciation: [ˈoːlɐf ˈʃɔlts]; born June 14, 1958(1958-06-14) in Osnabrück) is a German politician from the Social Democratic Party of Germany.

From May to October 2001 he was Minister of the Interior (Innensenator) of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and from 2002 to 2004 he was general secretary of the SPD. On 13 November 2007, SPD chairman Kurt Beck announced that Scholz will succeed Franz Müntefering as Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, beginning when the latter left office on 21 November.^[1]
