Prof. Michael S. Lew (born 19 April 1965[1]) is a distinguished scientist in multimedia information search and retrieval at Leiden University, The Netherlands[2]. He has published over 7 books and 100 scientific articles in the areas of multimedia search, computer vision, human computer interaction, and information retrieval[3][4]. Notably, he was the opening keynote speaker for the 9th International Conference on Visual Information Systems (2007)[5], the co-founder of influential conferences such as the International Conference on Image and Video Retrieval[6] and the IEEE Workshop on Human Computer Interaction[7]. He was also a founding member of the international advisory committee for the TRECVID video retrieval evaluation project[8]. His work is frequently cited in both scientific and popular news sources.
