Since the Republic of Kosovo declared independence, from Serbia on 17 February 2008 and is recognised by 61 UN member states; several of them have opened embassies. Other states have retained representation offices. Russia maintains a representation office with the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK). Kosovo is currently host to seventeen embassies.
