The Liga II 2008-09 season is the 69th season of Liga II, the second tier of the Romanian football league system. The season began on August 16, 2008.
The top two teams from each series will be promoted at the end of the season to the Liga I, while the bottom four will be relegated to the Liga III.

1 Two points deducted from Universitatea Cluj-Napoca because of not reaching the 25 point margin in the last season of Liga I.

2 Forex Braşov and Prefab 05 Modelu withdrew in the first part of the championship and all their results were canceled.

3 Progresul Bucureşti was kicked out from the competition after round 24 because of financial reasons and will lose all remaining matches with 3-0. It was also penalised 3 points because it failed to pay old debts to Radostin Stanev.
-
4 Ştiinţa Bacău withdrew from the championship at the end of the first half and was taken over by Luceafărul which continued to play in Ştiinţa's place in the second half of the championship. The club withdrew again from the competition after round 32 and lost all remaining matches with 3-0.
