Chifeng (simplified Chinese: 赤峰; pinyin: Chìfēng; Mongolian: Ulaɣanqada; lit.: “red peak” or "red cliff", respectively) is a prefecture-level city in southeastern Inner Mongolia. It borders Xilin Gol to the north and west, Tongliao to the northeast, and Chaoyang prefecture of Liaoning and Chengde prefecture of Hebei to the south. The city has an area of 90,275 km² and a population of 4.48 million (2004). Chifeng is the seat of a Roman Catholic diocese, and traces of Christianity in the city go back to the thirteenth century.[1]
