Cathkin Park is a municipal park in Glasgow, Scotland. The park is maintained by the city's parks department, and it is a public place where football is still played. The park contains the site of the first Hampden Park (now the Hampden Bowling Club), whilst the second Hampden Park (New Cathkin Park) is just across the Cathcart Road

[edit] Football ground

The park formerly contained a football stadium, which had played host to organised football since 1884. It was originally known as Hampden Park (the second by that name) and was owned by Queen's Park. When Queen's Park moved to the third (and current) Hampden Park, they sold the ground to Third Lanark, who renamed it New Cathkin Park (as they had previously played at another stadium named Cathkin Park (which had held two internationals; the first, on 15 March 1884, Scotland versus England, was the first all-ticket match ever). This is also where the British League Cup final took place (att: 12000) in 1902, which Celtic won against Rangers 3-2 after extra time.

After Third Lanark folded in 1967, the stadium fell into disrepair. The remains of one terrace can be seen in the park. However, a reformed Third Lanark team which plays in the Greater Glasgow Amateur League currently plays in the park.[1]
