An apology has two main meanings:
1. An expression of contrition (guilt) and remorse for something done wrong.
It is implied that the act that caused the reason for the apology won´t be repeated again.
2. A formal justification or defense of an act or idea.
Apology is from the Greek apologia (απολογία).
