[edit] Early life and career

Ghalib moved with his family to London in 1977 as a five-year-old immigrant and then to Birmingham.[1] The family first settled in London before moving near Birmingham living in a predominantly Muslim neighborhood. In his late teens, Ghalib moved to South London, before later settling in southern California. Before becoming a celebrity photographer, Ghalib worked as a manager at a strip club.[1]

[edit] Personal life

Ghalib married former model AzLynn Elizabeth Berry on December 18, 2003.[2] On January 18, 2008, Ghalib's wife filed for legal separation, citing irreconcilable differences.[2]

[edit] Relationship with Britney Spears

Ghalib had been working as a paparazzi, taking photographs of Spears outside her house, when one night, in December 2007, she invited him into her car and began a sexual relationship with him.[3][4] Of his relationship with Spears, Ghalib stated, "I think she's a great person."[4] In January 2008, rumors circulated that Spears was pregnant with his child; Ghalib denied the reports, but expressed that, at the time, Spears was "hoping" she was pregnant.[5]

[edit] Controversies

[edit] Spears Restraining Order

Britney's father, Jamie Spears filed restraining orders on Britney's behalf against Ghalib and Spears' former friend Sam Lutfi, alleging that they had been exploiting the singer, and were now attempting to interfere with her conservatorship; a temporary restraining order was granted while a judge heard testimony in the matter.[6] Court documents claim that they had been conspiring to gain control of the pop star's affairs. On March 18, 2009 the judge in the case ordered a three-year restraining order against Ghalib after he failed to appear in court for a hearing on the matter.[7] As part of the terms of the restraining order, which prohibit him from owning a firearm, Ghalib sold his Hi-Point C9 handgun.[8] The restraining order forbids Lutfi and Ghalib from contacting Spears or coming within 250 yards of her, her property or family members.[9]

[edit] Assault Charges

Ghalib was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, hit-and-run, and battery stemming from an incident on February 11, 2009, in Los Angeles. Ghalib allegedly tried to run over a court official who was trying to serve a restraining order on him. The restraining order was issued by Britney Spears' father, Jamie Spears, who has control over the singer's affairs.[10]

There has been speculation as to whether Ghalib, if found guilty, could be deported from the United States to Britain or Afghanistan. A source from the Los Angeles police explains, "The country of citizenship listed on the legal files is where someone convicted of a serious crime will be deported to whether they hold a green card or not."[11]

The speculation of deportation was ignited by tabloids.

According to an officer at the Department of Immigration and Enforcement in California, if convicted of a crime, Adnan Ghalib would serve his sentence in the United States like anyone else. After serving his sentence, he would come before an immigration judge for a fair hearing like anyone else: there is no automatic deportation of Adnan whether proven innocent or guilty.
